Rising star Bryan K presebts his new music video for Rudo as part of the regional music project known as Safeguarding Young People (SYP), a programme implemented which is implemented by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The SYP programme is designed to identify and scale up interventions to improve the Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) status of adolescents and young people (10-24 years) in East and Southern Africa (ESA). The music project brings together six artists from various countries within Southern African who worked on an album, entitled We Will, with specific messaging to generate demand for uptake of SRH and HIV services and promote healthy SRH choices. These are Stlofa (Lesotho), Gwamba (Malawi), Dj Khaliwa (Zambia), Zeus (Botswana), KrTC of Hip Hop (Swaziland) and Bryan K (Zimbabwe), with each artist launching their videos and TuneMe in their country as well as an official launch of videos in South Africa towards the end of this year. As Zimbabwe’s SYP Ambassador, Bryan K wrote and recorded a music video Rudo, a song encouraging responsible love and relationships.
This time last year Tuwede Adam (36) was sitting in her home dejected and sad having suffered from fistula for almost 20 years. In 1996, while giving birth at home during an agonising 4 day labour at the age of 16, Adam suffered this birth injury that left her incontinent for 19 years but now thanks to UNFPA's Obstetric Fistula repair camps programme, Tuwede is a new woman and gained her life back. As we commemorate International Day to End Obstetric Fistula, we take a look at Tuwede's inspiring story of survival.
