UNFPA supports the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency and other key Government line ministries to enhance their capacity to collect, analyse and utilize population data at national and sub-national levels and, to integrate population issues in development planning. Key surveys the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has supported the Government of Zimbabwe with over the years include the Zimbabwe Demographic and Health Survey and Population Census. These are the two most important sources of comprehensive data on indicators relevant to UNFPA’s areas of work.

UNFPA’s partnership with the Government of Zimbabwe began in 1982 with support to the National Census. UNFPA together with the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency and other stakeholders are currently preparing for the Population Census to be conducted in April 2022. UNFPA is providing technical assistance to ZIMSTAT in the Census process.

In addition to household counting, the Census will also collect data for indicators from several other national and internationally agreed development frameworks such as the Transitional Stabilisation Programme, the International Conference on Population and Development and the World Summit for Children.
